Someone has to save our skins

Disclaimer: this is going to be one of many posts at the same time on here. Had some troubles getting them posted, so sorry about the mess.

With Father’s Day approaching here in Australia, and Dad and I preparing to get our first game underway, I thought what better thing to give him than a painted mini since he has even less time than I to paint! Question was, do I paint a squad of his or a commander/operative? I thought it best to do a commander since he’s playing rebels and they tend to lean towards more of the iconic individual characters. But which one? He has the core set Luke and a Han that I bought him also (theres a Chewie in reserve to come but that’s at Christmas).

So I thought I’d surprise him and get him Leia.

I never thought I’d enjoy painting a mini as much as I did this one! She came together easily and very quickly to be honest; I’d devoted all of my painting time to getting her finished in a week and I was quite surprised at how well she turned out (although I shouldn’t really as I was a little over the top and over meticulous). My only disappointment was in the highlighting of the face, just couldn’t get it subtle enough with the right amount of definition.

Next up, the eyes. Wow, I couldn’t believe I nailed the eyes!! Not that I’ve had the chance to paint many, but these were so bloody awesome. Probably the thing I’m most proud of (who am I kidding, I love the whole thing).

The best thing about painting Leia though...my 3 year old daughter loves looking at and playing with  “daddy’s robots”, but this time, she scooped up Leia and said “it’s Ellie!” My heart burst and I smiled so hard! “Yes bub, it’s Ellie” I said, “dad’s painting her for pop”. I can’t wait til she can play with the both of us.

And when the day arrived, who better than to gift Leia than my eldest herself. And my dad loves having an ‘Ellie’ in his army. If it takes after the real one, my Imps are in trouble!!
